Stewart Pence - Marketing Lead
Working at ComboStrike has definitely powered up my game.

Stewart Pence

Marketing Lead

What has brought you to ComboStrike?

Randomly saw the job posting one day, and I simply couldn't turn down the opportunity to work in gaming and in an international environment (the polar opposite of my upbringing in the Ozarks).

What’s the most exciting part of your role with ComboStrike?

The variety. The games industry is incredibly dynamic, and marketing is never static. There's always a new situation, problem, game, update, or something entirely different. It's impossible to stand still and I like to always be in motion.

What have you learned since you started working at ComboStrike?

Too much to include in a paragraph, but in a word, it's the incredible level of nuance required to be effective in this industry. Gaming audiences are fickle, and every consumer responds to different games and different marketing... differently. As a huge fan of strategy games, I play titles such as Civilization, Rimworld, Slay the Spire, Loop Hero, etc., but for entirely different reasons. These differences also play out in other areas. Beyond gameplay, it's important to consider the ways players consume content, make purchasing decisions, what brands they like, what interests they have, etc. It's a neverending journey of discovery.

How would you describe the ComboStrike culture?

Depends on whether or not a global pandemic is raging! The culture is great, the work is fun, and the people are wonderful, but naturally, it's hard to play couch co-op or a game of ping pong while remote.

Kristina Dama - Marketing Lead
There is constant growth both on a company level as well as personal level.

What has brought you to ComboStrike?

The potential of the company. When a startup is working with such veterans in the industry, you can't help but wonder where it will be in a few years and how successful it can be.

What’s the most exciting part of your role with ComboStrike?

Working with some of the biggest gaming companies for titles that have a great history. At the same time working with smaller companies to market the games that they have been passionately developing and having the chance to help them become the next hit!

What have you learned since you started working at ComboStrike?

A whole lot, there is constant growth both on a company level as well as personal level. You are more knowledgeable by the day as things move at a fast pace and you will keep up with industry trends.

Describe an average day at ComboStrike!

Never boring! You get to be involved in as many different things as you wish. At the end of the day, the most exciting part is that you have the opportunity to be a part of the journey of big gaming titles.

How would you describe the ComboStrike culture?

It is a wonderful place to work. The atmosphere is very warm, with friendly colleagues that after a while feel like family.

I felt like the job description was distinctly made for me!

What has brought you to ComboStrike?

I had just finished my BA in Media- and Economical Psychology and was ready to look for a job in the gaming industry when I stumbled across Combostrike on LinkedIn. When I read that they were looking for somebody who is savvy with YouTube and Twitch and is well versed in gaming, I felt like the job description was distinctly made for me!

What’s the most exciting part of your role with ComboStrike?

Getting to talk to both Devs, Publishers, and content creators of varying sizes on all Social Media platforms! Talking business with the Developers who make the games I love or talking to my favorite content creators about upcoming campaigns is something I did not think I'd get the chance to do.

What have you learned since you started working at ComboStrike?

Not to be too tense. I tend to be very fixated on not making any glaring mistakes which can be very stressful at times, but I was reassured many times that I am doing a good job. The positive reinforcement that I get from my Team Lead and colleagues is amazing.

Describe an average day at ComboStrike!

Office Version: Arriving at the office to find everyone going for their morning coffee, (I prefer hot chocolate or the occasional tea). Working at my own leisure, knowing that my colleagues trust me to finish my tasks by the due date. This includes, attending company meetings, client (devs/publishers) meetings, creator- or agency-meetings, structuring Media Plans for clients, competitor analysis, ideation for creatives, setting up contracts, monitoring creator performance during campaigns, keeping up with industry standards, and a lot more. Occasionally you'll get challenged by colleagues to various games and vying for the coveted Combostrike Trophy! In the after-hours I do tend to go home after work, but everyone else does like to mingle after work in the kitchen to just talk, drink or play some games on the couch. Home Office version: Rolling out of bed, taking my time to wake up, signing on to Slack and getting to work (see above). I catch up with my colleagues on Google Hangouts or Discord and join the occasional Let's Play session with my teammates.

How would you describe the ComboStrike culture?

I remember when I had just started at Combostrike and I felt at ease, which was the first time I felt that way at a new job. I think the reason for that is that almost everyone in the company shares the same passion as I do, which is gaming. Everyone is extremely nice and helpful, your colleagues will ask you to hang out and chat for a while, which is nice, even for somebody like me who tends to not be a huge fan of social outings. 😅 It is a very welcoming atmosphere and you'll find no shortage of awesome people with diverse backgrounds.
